6th Form Pathway Programme
In partnership with the Ministry of Education and Youth, St. John Bosco Vocational Training Centre is proud to offer the 6th Form Pathway Programme as part of the Ministry’s K–13 Strategy. This forward-thinking initiative extends secondary education to seven years, giving students who have completed Grade 11 the opportunity to pursue an additional two years of study. The programme includes a blend of traditional academic subjects and alternative, career-focused pathways, designed to better prepare students for the world of work or further education.

Pathway 2: Technical Sixth Form Programme
This pathway is designed for students who meet one of the following entry criteria:

Technical Pathway – Pathway 2
Programme Offered:
Students in the Technical Pathway will pursue Level 2 certification in a labour market skill of their choice.
The programme may be completed within one year, after which students can transition to the
Occupational Associate Degree Programme (Traditional Pathway 1C) in Grade 13.
Pathway 3: General Sixth Form Programme
Students entering without any CXC subject passes can enroll in the
General Pathway, which focuses on developing
foundational skills and qualifications. This pathway includes:

Students who demonstrate progress and competence may have the opportunity to
transfer to the Technical Pathway in Grade 13.
Your Pathway to Skills and Certification
Trainees will gain in-depth agricultural knowledge and learn about modern farming techniques that are essential for successful crop cultivation and maximising yields while emphasising sustainable and eco-friendly techniques. Climate-smart farming techniques will be taught in order to increase the level of climate resilience of local communities. In particular, trainees will learn about and put into practice techniques related to drainage systems, water harvesting, greenhouses, irrigation management, crop rotation, composting, mulching, cover cropping, and the use of hybrid seeds.
Duration: 1 year
Benefits: Students earn a NVQJ Level 2 certification in Crop Production
Trainees will learn about food safety, preparing foods according to specific dietary and cultural needs, knife skills and more in order to become employed as a Line Cook, Prep Cook, Pastry Chef, caterers or entrepreneurs. Practicums are completed in a modern on-site kitchen facility.
Duration: 1 year
Benefits: Students earn a NVQJ Level 2 certification in Commercial Food Preparation
Trainees will learn essential techniques for manicures, pedicures, nail extensions, and nail art in order to pursue a career as a Nail Technician, Entrepreneur, Beauty Spa Technician, Nail Consultant, Nail Product Developer or more. Practicums are completed in a nail care room consisting of multiple nail care stations and stocked with industry supplies and equipment.
Duration: 4 months – 6 months
Benefits: Students earn a Nail Technician Job Certification (Level 2)
Students will learn about the general care of plants (i.e. plant health and nutrition; irrigation techniques and drainage; pesticide applications; occupational health and safety procedures and more), in order to become employed as Greenhouse technicians, Seedling nursery technicians, or Farm Supervisors. Practices which promote climate resilience will also be taught (e.g. effective ways of protecting greenhouses against the threat of hurricanes). Practicums are completed in an on-site greenhouse.
Duration: 4 months – 6 months
Benefits: Students earn a Greenhouse Technology Job Certification (Level 2)
Trainees will learn to work with and understand the properties of different cuts of meat as well as learn to use professional industrial equipment in order to pursue a career as a Meat Specialist, Meat Cutter, Meat Cutting Instructor, Entrepreneur, Butcher, Meat Inspector or Quality Control Specialist. Practicums are completed in a modern commercial butcher shop and private abattoir.
Duration: 4 months – 6 months

With over fifty years of experience in skills training, St. John Bosco Vocational Training Centre is proud to be one of Jamaica’s approved City & Guilds Centres. We offer certification courses in Mathematics, English, Information Technology, and several vocational areas under the City & Guilds framework. Many of our programmes have already received full approval, while others are currently being processed.
